SAMPLING PLANTATION CEREMONY AT PSIT-PSAT
Date: August 4th 2010
The campus of Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology, Kanpur saw the plantation of saplings on Wednesday morning in its effort to go the eco-friendly way. The occasion was marked by the presence of the DM of Kanpur, Mukesh Kumar Meshram who has been actively involved in increasing the green cover in the Kanpur District.
The day started with the welcome speech delivered by Shefali Raj, Director Training & Placement, PSIT, where she highlighted the various social activities being taken up by the DM in an endeavour to connect to nature.
Talking to the faculty and students, Meshram pointed out the urgent need to increase the green cover in the entire city. He claimed that the whole of the Kanpur district had less than 1 per cent of the greenery as compared to 33 per cent which is required. “One small tree fulfills the oxygen needs of 5 persons, while a big tree does that for 12 people,” he said, adding that the jungle cover is increasing only in terms of population and not in terms of trees.
Meshram also highlighted the fact that a sapling should be planted with a positive attitude since they are very sensitive. Consequently, they give back the positive attitude in return to our lives. At the same time, he also stressed on making least use of polythene bags.
PSIT Chairman, Pranveer Singh thanked the DM for taking out time to visit the campus and motivating the students and faculty to connect to nature for their own benefits. He also promised to convert 30 acres of the whole of 60 acres land of the institute into a green cover.
All students and faculty planted one sampling each and by the end of the day, PSIT was a lush-green campus.
Way to Go!!!
